Otherwise,include shearing • <br /> instructions to Owner as part of required maintenance instructions. <br /> 3.6 MULCH AND SOIL SEPARATOR MAT <br /> A. Mulch shall be applied to all shrub planting beds to a minimum depth of 3" and a <br /> maximum depth of 4". Mulch shall be underlaid with a soil separator mat where noted on <br /> drawings. The mat shall have a 6" minimum overlap wherever edges join. Mat shall be <br /> cut as close as possible around plants and then pinned. <br /> 3.7 TEMPORARY STORAGE AND HEELING-IN <br /> A. When temporary storage or heeling-in is required,the Contractor shall provide and <br /> prepare a suitable heeling ground or heeling-in nursery conveniently located near the <br /> planting site prior to the shipment of the plant material from the growing nursery or other <br /> source. <br /> B. Plant material unloaded and accepted by the Architect shall be immediately heeled-in or <br /> transported to the planting site and planted.Material left out of ground overnight or left <br /> with its roots bared to the sun,or otherwise unprotected during transit,unloading, or <br /> storage shall be rejected by the Architect,if such lack of protection has caused damage to <br /> the roots of the plant or in any other way injured the plant material. At all times, <br /> Contractor shall keep plant roots adequately moist,and take other measures as necessary <br /> to prevent stress to plants. <br /> 3.8 MAINTENANCE <br /> A. Provide a thorough watering of all plants immediately after planting. Thorough waterings <br /> shall occur once weekly to supplement natural rainfall.Watering shall continue for 60 <br /> days for all plants. Maintenance of plants will be the responsibility of the Owner after 60 <br /> days.The Contractor shall make periodic checks of all plantings during the full length of <br /> the guarantee period to make certain that the plants are properly cared for and that the sum <br /> of all conditions are contributing to the satisfactory progress of the plants. <br /> B. Prune,water,cultivate and weed,during maintenance period as required for healthy <br /> growth. Reset plants to proper grades or vertical position as required. Spray as required <br /> to keep plants free of insects and disease. Notify Architect and Owner of any disease or <br /> infestation and provide an appropriate treatment plan to be implemented as a restorative <br /> measure. <br /> C. Maintenance Instructions: The Contractor shall submit typewritten instructions <br /> describing procedures to be established by the Owner for maintenance of landscape work <br /> during the guarantee period and beyond.
