5. Where sod is terminated at paved areas,the top of the sod shall be 1/2" above or <br /> below abutting paved surfaces,dependent on direction of surface runoff. Where sod <br /> is terminated at seeded areas,the top of the sod soil section shall be flush with seed <br /> area topsoil. <br /> B. Fertilizer: <br /> 1. Spread fertilizer by mechanical spreader at rate as recommended by testing <br /> laboratory. <br /> 2. Mix thoroughly into topsoil. (This work may be done during tilling operation.) • <br /> C. Seeding: Seed shallbe sown by means of mechanical spreader at the specified rate of <br /> application. The use of hand operated mechanical spreaders will be permitted only on <br /> area which are inaccessible to larger equipment. <br /> D. Seedbed Firming: All seeded areas shall have the seed bed firmed after seeding and prior <br /> to mulching. The soil fuming shall be done with a drag,cultipacker,or other approved <br /> soil fuming equipment. Soil firming or seed covering shall be accomplished immediately <br /> following seeding. <br /> E. Mulching: Mulch at seed areas shall be applied by mechanical blower equipment to a <br /> uniform distribution at the specified application rate;approximately 10% of the soil <br /> surface should be visible through the mulched areas. Mulch is not required at areas to <br /> receive erosion control blanket. <br /> F. Erosion Control Blanket: At select seeded areas as identified on the plans,the area shall <br /> be covered with specified erosion control blanket within 24 hours after sowing of seed. <br /> Blanket placement and staple installation shall be performed in conformance with <br /> MnDOT Specification Section 2575.3K2. <br /> 3.4 SAMPLING AND TESTING <br /> A. Owner shall should retain the services of an independent soils testing laboratory to take 2 <br /> soil samples and determine composition of fertilizer to be used. Provide copy of soil <br /> testing laboratories recommendation to Architect/Engineer. <br /> 3.5 MAINTENANCE AND ACCEPTANCE <br /> A. Sod: For acceptance, seeded areas shall present a full,uniform stand of grass, similar to <br /> an established healthy lawn,neatly mowed,free of substantial quantities of weeds. <br /> Scattered bare spots,none larger than 1 sq.ft.,will be accepted,but such bare spots shall <br /> not exceed 1% of any defmable area. <br /> ADDENDUM#1 <br /> 1607.001 -ORONO ICE ARENA(CP-2) Page 02930 - 3 <br />
