F. Where precast manhole sections cannot be used, manhole block, solid concrete block,or a
combination of such materials may be used. The outside and inside of block structures
constructed in the field shall be finished with a minimum of 1/2" of Portland cement
grout. Hollow concrete block shall not be allowed for any sewer structure.Method of
intended construction shall be clearly shown in the cut sheets and material list submitted.
3.5 LAYING PIPE
A. Prior to placing any pipe, verify all inverts at connection points and crossings. This
procedure may require independent excavations to expose pipe crossings. If conditions
are not as anticipated or result in conflicts contact the A/E office immediately.Allow two
weeks for the A/E office to revise profiles.
B. Pipes shall be handled in a manner to prevent damage.Maintain a clean pipe interior at all
times.
C. Lay pipe proceeding upgrade with the spigot ends of bell-and-spigot pipe and tongue ends
of tongue-and-groove pipe pointing in the direction of the flow. Maintain accurate
control of location and profile. The pipe shall have a uniform slope.
D. Before joining pipes, all surfaces shall be clean and dry and have the proper lubricants as
recommended by the manufacturer for the joint being used. The joints shall then be
placed,fitted and inspected.
3.6 SEWER AND WATERMAIN CROSSINGS
A. Watermains crossing house sewers, storm sewers,or sanitary sewers shall be laid to
provide a separation of at least 18 inches between the bottom of the watermain and the top
• of the sewer. When local conditions prevent a vertical separation as described, the
following construction shall be used:
1. Sewers shall be constructed of materials equal to watermain standards of
construction.
2. Provide adequate structural support for the sewers to prevent excessive deflection of
joints and settling.
3. The length of water pipe shall be centered at the point of crossing so that the joints
will be equal distance and as far as possible from the sewer.
3.7 BUILDING CONNECTIONS
A. Building connections shall be made to the waste and drainage piping at a point
approximately five feet outside the building, unless otherwise indicated.Where building
drain piping is not installed, the Contractor shall terminate the building connections
approximately 5'from the building at a point agreed to by the General Contractor.
ADDENDUM#1
1607.001 -ORONO ICE ARENA(CP-2) Page 02720 - 5
