D. Profile Control:
1. Place batter boards at least 50 feet on center except that a minimum of three
consecutive batter boards shall be set up prior to the installation of any pipe. Grade
shall be checked to see that the grade forms a continuous line. If a discrepancy is
found in any of the construction stakes,it shall be reported to the A/E immediately,
and work shall not proceed until the discrepancy has been corrected.
2. Adjustment of profile elevations will not be permitted without the written consent of
the A/E.
3. If a laser is used, the Contractor shall check alignment and grade at 25 feet,50 feet
and each station thereafter out of a manhole.
3.3 EXISTING STRUCTURES
A. Review the site survey for existing structures at areas of grade change. The contractor
shall adjust the top elevation of all existing structures to match new grade at areas of
grade change. A maximum of six adjusting rings may be used.
B. Field verify, prior to bidding, all existing structures at connection points and at grade
adjustment areas to determine the type of construction used and extent of work required to
adjust and repair the structures.
C. Connect new piping to sewer structures with as small a hole as possible and provide new
watertight joint.
3.4 NEW STRUCTURES
A. Precast manhole joints shall be made watertight with butyl rubber gasket material or an
"O"-ring gasket in accordance with ASTM Designation C-443.
B. Place precast concrete bases on a 3" minimum thickness of cast-in-place concrete pour on
undisturbed earth or subgrade approved by the Geotechnical Engineer.
C. Pour and form inverts inside the structures in a manner that channels the flow and
minimizes areas for debris to collect.
D. The end of the pipe shall not extend beyond the inside wall of structures except for pipes
laid continuously through the manhole in a straight line with the tops removed as
described below.
E. Wherever possible, the sanitary sewer pipe shall be laid continuously through the
manholes. Cut and neatly remove the top portion of pipe to provide a smooth invert, then
pour inverts as described above to fill adjacent voids.
ADDENDUM#1
1607.001 -ORONO ICE ARENA (CP-2) Page 02720 -4
