B. Prepared Subgrade: If subgrade conditions are unsatisfactory,have corrections made by <br /> General Contractor before proceeding. Do not begin paving work until subgrade <br /> conditions are acceptable,including specified compaction,as verified per compaction <br /> tests, Spec. Section 02200,Earthwork. <br /> C. Crushed Aggregate Base: Place and compact crushed aggregate base beneath curb and <br /> gutter and concrete drives per MnDOT Spec. Section 2211. Coordinate placement of <br /> aggregate base with bituminous pavement contractor. <br /> 3.2 PLACING CONCRETE <br /> A. General: Place concrete in accordance with ACI 301,Chapter 8. Consolidate concrete in <br /> accordance with ACI 309 using high frequency vibrators. Unless noted or detailed <br /> otherwise, sidewalk slabs shall be 4"thick. <br /> B. Forms: Set forms to required grades and lines,rigidly braced and secured. Install <br /> sufficient quantity of forms to allow continuous progress of work,so that forms can <br /> remain in place at least 24 hours after concrete is placed. Set with allowable tolerance of <br /> 1/8 inch when checked with a straightedge. Forms shall not deviate from true line by <br /> more than 1/4 inch at any point. Clean and oil forms at each use. Where curvilinear curbs <br /> are shown, form work shall be placed/constructed to"true arc"layout. Short tangent <br /> segments will not be accepted. <br /> C. Reinforcing: Locate,place and support reinforcement as indicated or with a minimum of <br /> 1-1/2" concrete cover. Do not extend reinforcing through expansion and contraction <br /> joints. Provide dowelled joints through expansion and contraction joints with one end of <br /> dowels fitted with capping sleeve to allow free movement. Keep reinforcing free of dirt, <br /> oil,rust, scale or other substances. Install welded wire fabric in as long lengths as <br /> practicable and offset end laps in adjacent sheets a minimum of two cross wire spacings. <br /> Make all end and side lap splices so the overlaps between outermost cross wires of each <br /> sheet are not less than 2". <br /> D. Sidewalk Joints: Unless noted or detailed otherwise,provide for expansion joints in <br /> sidewalks at intervals not to exceed 40 feet on centers and where walks abut curbs, stoops, <br /> walls or other fixed objects.Expansion joints shall be 1/2" wide using filler materials <br /> specified in Article 22. Provide tooled weak plane joints across sidewalks, 1-1/2" deep x <br /> 3/8" at 5'-0" intervals,unless otherwise noted. Tool edges of joints to a 1/4" radius. <br /> E. Curbs And Gutters: Provide control joints in poured in place concrete curbs, 10'-0" o.c. <br /> maximum spacing with expansion joints not over 40'-0"o.c. Make control joints by <br /> cutting approximately 1/8" wide x 1"to 1-1/2"deep into exposed surfaces. Expansion <br /> joints shall be 1/2" wide with joint filler. At curbs adjacent to sidewalks,align joints in <br /> curb and sidewalks. <br /> F.
