•
3.3 PARKING STALL AND TRAFFIC LANE PAINTING
A. Surface Condition: The application area shall be dry and free of all contamination
including oil, dirt, grease, curing compound and other matter than might adversely affect
adhesion or durability of the marking material. Cleaning shall be accomplished with
rotary brooms, air blast, hand brooms, scrapers,or whatever combination of equipment
that is necessary to produce a clean surface without damage.
B. Application Equipment: The equipment shall consist of a spray type machine capable of
applying the paint under pressure at a controlled temperature through nozzles equipped
with remotely controlled cut off mechanisms and suitable line guides that will produce
clean cut lines and prevent excessive paint drift.
C. Restrictions: Pavement markings shall only be applied in seasonable weather during
daylight hours when the air temperature is 50P or higher. The filling of paint tanks,
pouring of paint,or cleaning of equipment shall not be performed on unprotected
pavement.
D. Application: Apply paint to full well coated coverage, four inch wide stripes to layout as
shown on site plan.
E. Protection: Keep painted areas free of traffic for a minimum of four hours or until
thoroughly dry.
3.4 TESTING
A. The Contractor shall retain an independent testing laboratory, experienced in testing
asphalt and aggregates,to perform tests as specified below.
B. Aggregate Base: Visually verify that the surface exhibits thorough consolidation. Take
one field density test(ASTM D-1556)for every 5000 square yards of pavement area.
Density shall meet 100% Standard Proctor(ASTM D698).•
C. Aggregate Base Quality and Sieve Analysis: Perform the following tests at the intervals
noted.
1. Sieve Analysis (ASTM C136)for every 250 tons to verify compliance with
specifications.
D. Bituminous Density and Thickness:
1. Take one core sample for every 1,000 sq.yds.of bituminous area or a minimum of
two cores whichever yields more tests;test locations to be uniformly distributed
throughout the paved area. Determine density and thickness;compare percent
density to that determined by the 50 blow Marshall Method. Each core sample shall
be within 1/2" of specified thickness and have a density of not less than 95% of the
density obtained by the 50 blow Marshall Method.
ADDENDUM#1
1607.001 - ORONO ICE ARENA(CP-2) Page 02500-4
