Select Granular Fill: Base material and unit fill shall consist of free draining fill;gradation shall include material with fines limited to 5%passing the #200 sieve, and less than 50% of material passing the#40 sieve. C. Backfill: Material shall be granular borrow as specified in Specification Section 02200. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 FOUNDATION SOIL PREPARATION A. Foundation soil shall be excavated to the lines and grades as shown on the construction drawings or as directed by the Testing Laboratory representative. B. Foundation soil shall be examined by the Testing Laboratory representative to assure that the actual foundation soil strength meets or exceeds a design strength of 2000 psf. C. Over-excavated areas shall be filled with compacted granular material. ' D. Foundation soil shall be proof-rolled prior to fill placement. 3.2 BASE PREPARATION A. Base shall be placed as shown on the construction drawings with a minimum thickness of 6". B. Base materials shall be installed upon compacted granular borrow or undisturbed native soils. C. Material shall be compacted so as to provide a level, hard surface on which to place the first course of units. Compaction shall be with mechanical plate compactors to 95% of Standard Proctor Density(ASTM D698) D. Base shall be prepared to ensure complete contact of retaining wall unit with base.
