3.3 WALL ERECTION <br /> A. First course of concrete wall units shall be placed on the prepared base. Place the first <br /> course of units with top down so as to ensure lip of unit is at the face of the wall. The units <br /> shall be checked for level and alignment. The first course is the most important to ensure <br /> accurate and acceptable results. <br /> B. Ensure that units are in full contact with base. <br /> C. Units are to be placed end to end for full length of wall alignment. Alignment shall be done <br /> by using a string line or offset from a base line. Contractor shall follow manufacturer's <br /> installation instructions when making radius curves. <br /> D. Compact fill. <br /> E. Sweep all excess material from the top of the units and install next course. Fill all voids. <br /> F. Lay up each course making sure that the lip of the unit is placed against the back of the <br /> succeeding course. Pull unit forward as far as possible. Backfill and compact soil behind <br /> the units. Repeat procedure to the extent of wall height. <br /> 3.4 WALL FILL PLACEMENT • <br /> A. Wall fill material shall be placed in lifts and compacted as under Specification Section <br /> 02200. <br /> B. Only hand-operated compaction equipment shall be allowed within 3 feet of the wall face. <br /> C. Backfill shall be placed from the wall outward, to ensure that the geogrid remains taut. <br /> 3.5 QUALITY CONTROL BY TESTING LABORATORY <br /> A. Testing Laboratory to be retained by Owner. <br /> B.
