C. Initial Backfill: • <br /> 1. Place initial backfill material in maximum loose lifts of 6". <br /> 2. Compact each lift to 95% Standard Proctor Density(ASTM D698). <br /> 3. Test compaction every 200 lineal feet of trench. <br /> D. Select Trench Backfill: <br /> 1. Place select trench backfill in maximum lifts of 12" prior to compacting. <br /> 2. Compact each lift to 98% Standard Proctor Density(ASTM D698). <br /> 3. Test density in every second lift per 100'of trench. <br /> E. General Trench Backfill: <br /> 1. Place trench backfill material in maximum loose lifts of 18" prior to compacting. <br /> 2. Compact each lift to 93% Standard Proctor Density(ASTM D698). <br /> 3. Test density every second lift per 200'of trench. <br /> F. General Procedures: <br /> 1. Remove all shoring used to control side slopes as backfilling occurs. <br /> 2. Backfill placed around structures shall be in 8" maximum lifts. <br /> 3. Match existing elevations adjacent to the trench at the time the trench is backfilled. If <br /> the trench is in a fill area, the earthwork contractor will fill over the pipe zone material. <br /> 3.6 DEPTH OF COVER AND MARKING <br /> A. Water Lines: Trenches shall be excavated to a depth as required to provide a minimum <br /> cover from top of pipe to proposed finish grade of 7.5 feet. <br /> B. Electrical Distribution: Special trenching requirements,when applicable, are specified in <br /> Division 16. <br /> C. Plastic Marking Tape: Warning tape shall be of the type specifically manufactured for <br /> marking the location of underground utilities. The tape shall be installed directly above the <br /> pipe at a depth of 18" below proposed finish grade. The tape shall be acid and alkali- <br /> resistant polyethylene film, 6" wide.
