Areas of new surfacing: <br /> 1. Backfill to the proposed subgrade elevation, i.e. finish grade, less the thickness of <br /> pavement and base. <br /> 2. Where new surfacing is not shown or does not extend to the limits of trench work, this <br /> contractor shall be responsible for surface improvements/restoration consistent with <br /> existing surface. <br /> B. Lawns: Minimum requirements will be 6 inch thickness of specified topsoil and cultured <br /> sod. Seed is not acceptable. <br /> 3.8 FIELD AND LABORATORY TESTS <br /> A. General Requirements: The Owner shall retain an independent geotechnical testing <br /> laboratory to conduct laboratory and field testing of soils prior to and during excavation, <br /> filling,backfilling and compaction operations. Soil testing to include that specified above <br /> and the following: <br /> 1. All stabilization aggregate, bedding, initial backfill, select and general trench backfill <br /> material shall be analyzed for compliance with specifications. <br /> 2. Geotechnical laboratory representative shall be present at site each day when trench <br /> excavation and backfill are being accomplished. The laboratory representative shall <br /> approve the trench subgrade as being stable or rrecommend the application of pipe <br /> trench stabilization prior to placing of bedding material. <br /> 3. The independent testing laboratory shall submit to the Architect/Engineer copies of all <br /> soil reports(mechanical analysis, Atterburg Limits, compaction tests, etc.) as they are <br /> completed. <br /> 4. No trench backfill materials shall be placed unless necessary soil analysis tests have <br /> been performed and materials found in conformance with specifications. No trench <br /> backfill shall be placed without specified field density tests performed. <br /> 5.
