2. Testing Laboratory representative shall be present at the site to establish excavation • <br /> limits, and observe and tes structural fill, placement, subgrade improvement or <br /> correction, building fill or backfill as it is being accomplished. <br /> B. Minimum Densities: Compaction shall meet the requirements of ASTM D698 for densities <br /> established by the Standard Proctor Method. Field density tests shall be performed in <br /> accordance with ASTM D1556(Sand Cone Method)or ASTM D2922(Nuclear Method, <br /> when approved). Densities of at least the following minimum percentage shall be obtained: <br /> 1. Subgrade in embankment construction: <br /> a. Fill under building areas: 95 percent <br /> b. Fill under roads, pavements, and walks(within upper 2 feet): 98 percent <br /> c. Fill under roads, pavements, and walks(below upper 2 feet): 95 percent <br /> d. Filled under grassed areas: 85 percent <br /> 2. Structrural fill for over excavation under foundations: 100 percent <br /> 3. Backfill/fill at building foundations: 95 percent <br /> 4. Underslab base: <br /> a. Granular base under building floor slabs: 100 percent <br /> b. Granular base under exterior concrete: 98 percent <br /> 5. Backfill at pipe zone(underground utilities): 85 percent <br /> 6. Backfill from pipe zone to building subgrade: 98 percent <br /> C. If soil analysis or compaction tests indicate that the materials specified have not been <br /> furnished, place or compacted in compliance with these specifications, the material shall be <br /> removed, replaced, recompacted and retested. The entire cost of this work, including the <br /> costs of retests, shall be paid by the contractor. <br /> D. Test Frequency: <br /> 1. Provide one mechanical or hydrometer analysis test (dependent on whether soil is <br /> cohesionless or cohesive)for each class of fill soil specified or fill soil from a given <br /> source. <br /> 2.
