1. Cut, fill and grade to transform site to elevations and contours shown on site plan with
allowances made for granular borrow, subgrade improvement, cushions, topsoil clay
underlayment, top soil, and pavements. Grading tolerance, unless noted differently on
the grading plan, shall be as noted above.
2. Slope grades away from buildings to insure temporary and permanent drainage
protection before and after topsoil or other surfaces are placed.
3. Place backfill against foundations only after concrete has attained design strength and
appropriate bracing is in place.
4. Remove all debris, building materials, large stones, boulders, branches or other
obstructions. Hand level around permanent obstructions.
5. Finish by blade grader and heavy steel "H" beam drag.
6. Ease new grades into existing grades without awkward or abrupt transitions.
B. Finish Grading, Topsoil Areas:
1. Place topsoil so that a minimum depth of 6" (maximum thickness of 12")is achieved
after rolling and compaction. At pond area perimeter and wetland mitigation area,
organic topsoil shall be placed to a minimum thickness of 12". All holes, depressions
and rivulets shall be filled in and brought to a smooth grade.
2. Blade, drag and rake to uniform slopes, achieving a uniform surface. All sticks,
branches, roots, stumps, rocks and other debris on the surface shall be picked up and
removed from the site.
3. The finish grade preparation shall be performed only during periods when beneficial
results are likely. During periods of excess drought, moisture or freezing conditions,
the Contractor shall stop work and resume operations only when desired results are
obtainable.
4. When the work is complete the topsoil shall be free of rocks(1" or larger) and other
deleterious materials. Drainage should generally occur as interpretable from contours
with no awkward or abrupt transitions of grade.
3.8 QUALITY CONTROL BY TESTING LABORATORY
A. The Testing Laboratory, as retained by the Owner, shall conduct laboratory and field
testing of soils prior to and during excavation, embankment placement and compaction
operations. Soils testing shall include the following:
1. All fill soils, including topsoil, shall be analyzed for compliance with specifications.
ADDENDUM#1
1607.001 -ORONO ICE ARENA(CP-2) Page 02200- 13
