3. Additional excavation beneath the elevations given above, and subsequent placement
of granular borrow within the excavation void shall be subject to compensation per
"Unit Prices". Volume of additional excavation shall be determined by the Testing
Laboratory by in-place measurement.
4. If excavation bottom penetrates below design elevation without recommendation of
testing laboratory representative, Contractor shall fill excavated area to design levels
with compacted granular borrow as defined above. Associated costs shall be absorbed
by Contractor.
5. Excavation shall permit placement and removal of forms where required.
6. Bottom of excavations shall not be disturbed once completed. If Contractors process
results in disturbed soils as determined by the Testing Laboratory, the disturbed soils
shall be removed and replaced with Granular borrow compacted to density as
recommended by Testing Laboratory; associated costs shall be at Contractor's
expense.
7. Contractor shall take appropriate measures to prevent slope failures at perimeter of
excavations.
C. Pavement Area Excavation:
1. Excavate proposed pavement areas to subgrade elevations as follows:
Concrete Areas: 16" below proposed finish grade.
Bituminous Areas: 36" below proposed finish grade.
2. Once excavation is complete to subgrade elevations as noted above, the exposed
subgrade shall be inspected for evidence of highly organic material. If such material is
evident at subgrade elevation, it shall be removed, and the resulting void filled with
compacted select suitable material up to adjacent subgrade elevation, i.e., floor
subgrade elevations per 3.4.8.1., or pavement area subgrade per 3.4.C.1.
3.5 FILL AREAS
A. Fill Materials:
1. The fill materials shall consist of select suitable soils or granular borrow materials free
from organic matter and other deleterious substances; specific application and
materials shall be as noted under Part 2 above. Fill shall not contain stones or
fragmentary rock measured in their greatest dimension larger than the following sizes:
ADDENDUM#1
1607.001 - ORONO ICE ARENA(CP-2) Page 02200- 10
