BELOW THE
UPPER 24 INCHES UPPER 24 INCHES
OF FILL(INCHES) OF FILL(INCHES)
FILL LOCATION
Under Building Areas: 3 3
Under Roads,Pavements and
ParkingLots: 4 *6
Under Grassed Areas: 6 *6
*May be exceeded if approved by Architect/Engineer
B. Building and Pavement Areas:
1. At those site areas where the existing grade is below design subgrade elevation(after
topsoil has been removed),the areas shall be filled with compacted select suitable fill
up to subgrade elevation. Subgrade elevation at building area per 3.4.B 1; subgrade
elevation at pavement area per 3.4.C.1.
2. Once subgrade elevation has been satisfied, granular borrow shall be placed in a
controlled fashion as described below. At parking lot areas, a geotextile fabric shall be
placed over the subgrade prior to placement of granular borrow. Fabric placement
shall include sewn seams meeting the strength requirements of MnDOT(Spec. Section
3733, table 3733-1.
3. The placement of granular borrow over a geotextile fabric shall occur in a manner that
protects the fabric from direct wheel loads. This may be accomplished by dumping the
granular borrow at the limit of the area so treated, and then spreading the granular
borrow with a crawler tractor to an initial thickness of 12". Once this initial layer has
been compacted to specified density the application of subsequent lifts of granular
borrow can be performed in a more conventional fashion at the Contractor's
discretion.
4. At pavement areas within 10 ft. of building perimeter, a 3" thick polystyrene insulation
bond shall be incorporated into the granular borrow placement sequence. See detail
drawings for specific placement details.
C. Construction:
1. The applicable fill materials shall be placed in horizontal layers which, when loose,
shall not exceed 8". Each layer shall be spread evenly and shall be thoroughly blade
mixed during the spreading to obtain uniformity of material in each layer. Each layer
shall be compacted to a density not less than the percentage of maximum dry density
as specified herein.
ADDENDUM#1
1607.001 -ORONO ICE ARENA(CP-2) Page 02200 - 11
