C. Water: Exercise particular effort to provide temporary grading to divert surface water
from excavations. Provide and maintain pumps, well points, sumps, suction and discharge
lines, and other dewatering systems necessary for the conveyance of water to approved run
off'disposal provisions.
D. Site Erosion Control: The following criteria shall apply to construction activities that
result in run-off leaving the site:
1. Channelized runoff from adjacent areas passing through the site shall be diverted
around disturbed areas, if practical. Otherwise, the channel shall be protected as
described below. Diverted runoff shall be conveyed in a manner that will not erode the
conveyance and receiving channels.
2. All activities on the site shall be conducted in a logical sequence to minimize the area
of bare soil exposed at any one time.
3. Runoff from the entire disturbed area on the site shall be controlled by meeting one or
more of the following:
a. All disturbed ground left inactive for 14 or more days shall be stabilized by
seeding and mulching, mulch covering or other equivalent control measure.
b. Silt fences, straw bales, or equivalent control measure shall be placed along all
sideslope and downslopes side of the site. If channel or area of concentrated
runoff passes through the site, silt fences shall be placed along the channel edges
to reduce sediment reaching channel. The use silt fences, straw bales, or
equivalent control measures shall include maintenance and inspection.
c. Siltation fence installation shall include anchoring the bottom edge as detailed on
the grading plan. Posts shall be 2"x 2" pine or steel posts located 4" o.c.
4. Any soil or dirt storage piles containing more than ten cubic yards of material should
not be located with a downslope drainage length of less than 25'from the toe of the
pile to a roadway or drainage channel. If remaining for more than seven days, it shall
be stabilized by mulching, vegetative cover, tarps or other means. Erosion from soil
piles which will be in existence for less than seven days shall be controlled by placing
straw bales or silt fence barriers around pile. All storm drains shall be protected with
straw bales or other filtering barriers.
E. Winter Construction: During cold weather, stripping, scarification, fill placement and
compaction shall be performed as rapidly as possible to minimize potential problems
associated with placement and compaction of frost susceptible soil.
F. Tree Protection: Protect trees indicated to remain by the following methods:
1. Construct a box of 8'minimum height that encompasses the tree trunk.
ADDENDUM#1
1607.001 - ORONO ICE ARENA(CP-2) Page 02200 - 7
