Orono Schools
STS Project#95723-XA
April 1993
/2.03 Supply and Return Lines - The tank will service boilers located in the boiler room. Supply
and return lines shall consist of nominal 2 inch diameter double walled fiberglass pipe. The
Contractor shall provide all necessary hardware to make necessary connections between
existing piping within the building and the new piping. All piping shall be UL listed for use
with petroleum products.
Connections into the containment system lines shall be a Teleflex flexible connection or
equivalent approved by the Engineer. A Teleflex flexible connection shall also be provided
at the exterior of the building wall for both the supply and return lines. In addition, a "boot"
containment sleeve shall be used to protect the flexible connection and the secondary
containment piping.
2.04 Overfill Equipment - The tank system shall be equipped with overfill equipment. The
overfill system shall be an overfill valve installed within the fill pipe which will be activated
once 95% of tank capacity has been reached. The overfill system proposed shall be shown
on the fabrication drawing and be approved by the Engineer prior to installation.
/2.05 Tank Level Monitoring Equipment - The Contractor shall supply and install a tank level
monitor at the site. The tank level monitor shall be a Veeder-Root TLS-350, Gilbarco Tank
Monitor 3, or equivalent, with a printer and magnetostrictive probes. The Engineer will
evaluate equivalent tank level monitor equipment. The Contractor shall submit
manufacturer's literature on the tank level monitoring equipment with the bid form if an
equivalent is proposed. The monitor console will be installed inside the boiler room as
shown on Figure 3A. The Contractor is responsible for providing the electrical connection
from the sender to the console. The Contractor is responsible for providing the electrical
connection from the breaker box to the console. The Contractor is responsible for
identification of the electrical supply locations during the pre-bid meeting. The Contractor
is responsible for installing, calibrating and making operational the monitoring equipment.
2.06 Piping Sump Sensor - The Contractor shall supply and install a piping sump sensor. The
piping sump sensor shall be a "float type" sensor. The sump sensor shall be installed
approximately 2 inches from the base of the sump floor. The Engineer will evaluate
proposed equivalent piping sump sensors. The connections between the sender and the
jmonitor shall be made in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.
2.07 Tank Anchoring - The Contractor shall mechanically anchor the underground storage tank.
Anchoring shall be accomplished using deadman anchors. Figure 5A in Appendix A shows
the detail for the construction of deadman anchors.
