I The sand content test shall consist of a 'od of 4 hours of contin
pen uoas pumpmg at a discharge
' of 40 gpm or may be part of the test pumping procednre described below. F1ow rates shall be
measurewith a circular orifice meter or other method approved by the Engineer. Sand content
measurements shall be taken at 15 minute intrvaLs a as direted by the Engineer. The discharge
will be considered acceptable if the aveaage sand concentration measured in the five samples is
less than 1 part per million and the consecudve samples have shown a trend toward decreasing
or stable sand content valnes.
Sand content samples shall be collecte ss described in Appendix D of the AWWA A100
Standard for Water Wells using a centrUugal sand sampler located on a tap at the discharge
pipe centzrline. At kast SO gallons of water shall be collected using this method. The
centrifugal sand sampler shall be provided by the Conttactor along with a drum or other vessel
for measuring the discharge volume. The centrifuge shall collect the sand in a removable tube
for dirxt measurements of sand volume.
3.3.6 Test Pumoinrt
Upon completion of well development, the Contractor shall clean out the well w the bottom of
the screen and install tempotary pamping equipment, throtding valves and suitable measuring
devices approved by the Engincer, capable of producing and measuring a flow of 100 gpm and
of sunultaneoosly measiuing the drawdown at the production well. Water pumped during test
' pumping shall be discharged at a location designated by the Ownes Representative. The
Contractor shall assist the Engineer in placing insuumentation up to 1.0-incts in diameter in the
well to depths up to 100 fcet below static wat level. The test shall be conducted at such
varios rates of flow as the Engineer may direct, and the Contractor shall accurately measure
drawdown and discharge rates at such intervals as directed by the Engineer. The Contractor shall
also record sand content of the piunped water at stable drawdowns at each pumping rate. It is
andcipaced that the test will be performed for an 8-hor pe.riod of continuous operation, but the
Enginoer reserves the right to lengthen or shorten this pe,riod as may be indicateby the results.
If,at the completion of the test, the Enginea shall detecmine that the test is not sufficient,he may
' direct the Ctractor to remove the test pump and equipment and proceed further with
velopment and again direct another test be made.
 3.3.7 Well Abandonment
ff the well fails to confam to these speifications and the Contiactor is unable to comect the
condidon or negodate a mutually acceptable cost reducdon for specific deviadons, it shall be
considered an abandoned hole, and the Contractor shall immediately start a new well at a nearby
' location designated by the Owner.
The abandoned well shall be sealed in accordance'vaith the Minnesota Department of Health
 Water Well Construction Code.

' TS-3-7
'
