MINiJTE5 OF THE
 ORONO CTTY COUNCIL MEETING
Monday,Much 14,2416
7:011 o'clock p.m.
9. #16-3803 STONEWQ4D,LLC,ON BEHALF OF TASHITAA TUFAA,1830
SHORELIlYE DRIVE,VARIANCES AND CONDITIONAL USE PERNIIT(contnuad)
stafs4n commented the Council approved ope a while ago that was preity similaz.
Curtis noted that was on Shadywood and Crystal Bay Road. Curtis statod it was a corner lot for a
detached garage. In that instauce the property owner did not have a through connetion but had an access
to the aew detached garage that was approved.
Walsh noted it was mentiamed that this cculd potentially be a Staff decision, but when he resds the report,
it says that im addrtion to other varianees,a variance to allow a secoad driveway is needed because City
Code vnly allows one driveway approcch per pmperty.
Curtis statod the previous Publio works Director init as a Bzaff approved variance. Curtis noted
it would no+t be a variance in the zaniug code but a varince to Chapter 18. The new Ci#y Engineer has
decided tat that isdecision he would like the Cauncil to make.
Klint stated some of the other neighbors'concerns relatedo construction traffic. Klint noted thre is the
new development thot is happening at the end of Heritage Lane as well as the two empty lots that arc now
curnntly for sale. As a rrilt, the neighbors arequite concernedbout the amount of develaQment in this
neighborhovd. Klint indicated they have beea in contact with Hennepin Cowrty aud they will alloPw
tsmporary acoess anto Shoneline Drive but will not allow permanent access. That temporary access
should alle`riate most of the heavy aonstruction traffic and the warkers on the house should be able to
park on the site.
Klint stated thy have also removed the request for the b-foot tall fen,ce around the perimeter of the
praperty and t1t they are in the process of developing a landscape plan. Klint stated they will have a
fce of some type bnt that they will not be aslang for a variance af any kind for the fence.
Gustafson stated the feaee also came up durinthe neighborhoodeeting. Gustafsan statof the five
neihbors who attended the meetueg, two of them had objections to the fence. The neighbor directly
acr+s the street had an objection ta the fence and 11+Ir.Tufaa indicated he is willing to work with him.
McMillan asked if the curb cuts will be 18 fcet wide.
Klint stated he does not hww the exact size.
I+IcMillan sta#ed he Ims 12 an the interior driveway and then 18 at the ctub.
Klint notd that is far the turniag radius.
Gustafson oommented it is nat a hard and fast number.
McMillan stated the 18-foot curb cut is pretty wide and that reducing the width might alleviate some of
the cucern. McMillan stated the nazrower width sometimes leads to some parkiag problerns at times, but
that the City prefers the lower key, less urban look. McMillan noted they are not over on hardcover, but
that in her view te amount af driveway could be minimi.ed.
