Crustafn statod he would like soe more specificity on what they can do
and that in their view by minimizing the side setback, the housc would be fairly narrow.
(3ustafson pointed out the vsriance that is being reqnired on the overhead.
Mattick asked how much room is available on the other side.
CYustafson stated they are tcnicching on that side.
Matticic asked if the Council is sugesting the garage be pulled closer to t1e neighlmr.
Walsh stated he is suggesting the house hug that line and bring it back. Walsh stated they could also talk
with the neighbors about moving the house bacic. Walah staed his not sune hc csn slecifY a Particular
number.
Gustafson noted it would prnbably eliminate a room and a balf on the]akeside of the hauae because they
would be shciaking the width of the house. Gustafson stated given the square footage the homaowner
would like, the house will appear to have more massing if it is shrnnk down. Guatafsfln stated in his view
homes get less attractive when they beome narrower. Gustafson noted if they moye the garagdoors to
the other side, the neighbore would be looldng at the back side of the garage and that thtre is not really a
way to drss that up.
McMillan askCd why they are not able to malce the back side of the garage attrachve,
Gustafson notd it would be the back side of a f+onrstall garage and that it would be fairly long.
Walsh stated on the one setback line, they have more flexibility.
Cestafaon stated if you look at the side that ia facing tho neighbor, they, attepte it more
attractive.
Walsh stated that is the line they can work with and they can make the housere attactive by perhaps
eliminating some of the bump-0uta.
McMillan stated she does not want thc Cottncil to get into a major redesign of the house and that they
should provide some direction on what they can tolerate for a side setback varianoe.
Mattick asked if it is as simple as switching the ganQge doors and then the variance on the side is okay.
