Motion, Ayes (4) - Nays (0) . Dick Benson, City Administrator, presented the DUTCH ELM REIMBURSEMENT City Council with a memo prepared by John R. Gerhardson, Public Works Coordinator, regarding the Dutch Elm Reimbursement and Subsidy Program dated February 14 , 1980 , which states: In 1979, the Orono Public Works Department removed one hundred and sixty-six trees on street right of ways and public grounds. On two occasions, private tree firms had to be contracted to assist in removal. The cost to remove one hundred and sixty-six trees by the street department and private firms amounted to twenty-two thousand, five hundred ninety-seven dollars and eighty-one cents. (Average cost per tree = $136.. 13) . Because the City of Orono does participate in the Minnesota Shade Tree Subsidy Program, we should be reimbursed 480 of $22 ,597. 81, ($10, 846. 94) . The City of Orono also offers to the residents of Orono a $25 per tree subsidy. To qualify for the subsidy, the resident must live in the control zone or own property in the control zone, have 1/2 acre or less of land, a diseased tree must be diagnosed by the Orono Forester, and an official notice must be submitted at the time of the request for subsidy. In 1979, Orono residents submitted claims for subsidy for the removal of twenty-seven trees, ($675) . Again, because of the State subsidy program, we should be reimbursed 480 of $675 , ($324) . The City of Orono' s cost for a Forester for 1979 was $7,539.55. The State subsidy program will also reimburse the City of Orono 480 of that cost, ($3 ,618. 98) . The total cost for the 1979 Diseased Shade Tree Program was: $30 , 812. 36 Less 48o reimbursed for Shade Tree Subsidy Program $14 , 789. 93 Total cost to City of Orono after reimbursement: $16 ,022 . 43 Council Meeting - February 25 , 1980 Hurr moved, Paurus seconded, to approve the Dutch Elm Reimbursement and Subsidy Program per the above memo.
