� INDQUIST & VEN NUM Page 4 City of Orono -2- September 25 , 1979 Regarding the drainage , we believe that the plan attached is the best one that can be achieved on this property considering the problems of the neighbors . The drainage plan does the utmost to direct the water north and south on the Holzer property as the water flows generally to the westward. It is most desirable to keep the water from going down into the Downey residence, or into the Downey patio, or into the Downey boathouse. Similarly, it is desirable to avoid casting the water onto the Smerling residence, the Smerling patio, or down the Smerling embankment which had a landslide in 1978. There- fore the best use has been made of gentle terracing to the west to slow the flow of the water and spread it north and south, but only on the Holzer property, as it makes its way westward. This is a complete alteration from the first plan wllich proposed a pipe system which directed the water directly to the west and directly down the hill. While the plan more or less speaks for itself, we do state that in all respects it does contain all of the elements of Mr. Olson 's letter to Mr. Holzer of August 29 , 1979, except those items detailed above. We would be happy to answer any questions. We respectfully request that based on the plan, the memo , and this letter, that appropriate conditional use permits and variances be granted to the Holzers to complete this project. Rest assured that if these approvals are forthcoming that the Holzers will do their utmost to finish the project as soon as they possibly can, but would appreciate understanding from the Council with respect to the lateness in year when it comes to the landscape work and other detail work required.
