REGULAR 1�iEETING OF THE ORONO COUi�ICIL, JULY 24 , 1979 Page 3 <br /> The basic Fire Code allows bulk storage, etc, by PUBLIC HFARING <br /> permit in any� district except where prohibited by Gasoline Storage <br /> (local) law. (Continued) <br /> Permits required: <br /> Sec. 15. 103. A person shall obtain a permit for the <br /> following: <br /> l. � Storage, handling or use of Class I flammable <br /> liquids in excess of one gallon in any dwelling <br /> or other place of human habitation; or in excess <br /> of five gallons in any other building or other <br /> occupancy; or in excess of ten gallons outside <br /> of any building: except that no permit shall <br /> be required for the following: <br /> (i) For the storage or use of flamr.table liquids <br /> in the fuel tank of a motor vehicle, aircraft, <br /> motorboat, mobile power plant or mobile heating <br /> plant <br /> (ii) For the storage or use of paints, oils, varnishes <br /> or similar flammable mixtures when such liquids <br /> are stored for maintenance, painting or similar <br /> purposes for a period of not more than 30 days. <br /> 2. Storage, handling or use of Class II or III liquids <br /> in excess of 25 gallons in a building; or in excess <br /> o� 300 gallons outside a building except for fuel <br /> oil used in connection with oil burning equipment. <br /> 3. Installation and use of equipr,lent and premises for <br /> the storage, handling, use or sale of flamr.lable <br /> or combustible liquids as herein stipulated. The <br /> required permit shall be obtained prior to the <br /> commencement of any work. <br /> The following options are provided for the Council to <br /> decide which level of fire protection is appropriate _ <br /> for Orono: <br /> LEVEL 1: Adopt basic code only with no additions: <br /> -No limits on quantity permited in any district <br /> -1�k�,ove ground tanks permitted in all districts <br /> with no setbacks required <br /> -Underground tanks permitted in all districts <br /> with three foot setbacks required <br /> -Portable container quantities not regulated <br /> LEVEL 2: Regulate portable container quantities and <br /> permanent tank setbacks: <br /> (Continued) <br />
