• REGULAR MEETING OF THE ORONO COUNCIL, JULY 25, 1977 Page 29
` Mr. Tom Jacobs, Building Inspector, informed the ELIZABETH GARDNER
City Council of two letters written by Henry Muhich, SCHOOL STATUS
Building & Zoning Administrator, to Mr. Dale Fischer,
Superintendent of School District #277 concerning the
• status of the Elizabeth Gardner School, which state:
 January 26, 1977 -
We have had some requests regarding the zoning status
, of the Elizabeth Gardner School property. Our records
indicate the owner of this property to be the
• Mound School District. Therefore, I am forwarding
this information to you so potential purchasers are
made aware of the status of this property.
The property is zoned LR-1C which is Residential with
a minimum one-half acre area required for a building
site. A change in ownership, even if it is put to
a similar use (educational) , would require a conditional
use permit approved by the Orono City Council.
•
' End of letter
 June 30 , 1977 - note to Dick Benson from Henry Muhich;
This is a copy of the letter I wrote to School Super-
intendent Fischer back in January. I have not heard
• if there has been any transfer of property, I hope not.
The school was informed of the status of the property
 some time ago.
` End of inemo
•
Letter to Superintendent Fischer dated July 12 , 1977

On January 26, 1977, I sent you a letter explaining
• the current zoning status of your property known as
w Elizabeth Gardner School in Orono. As yet, I have
not received any response.
Just recently it was bought to our attention that
the Calvary Memorial Church group is considering
purchasing the subject property.

I want to remind you again that this property is
zoned LR-1C Residential. A change from the current
• educational use to church services constitutes a
change in use. Churches, like schools, require
a conditional use permit if located in a residential
zone. The change i use would require a new conditional
use permit. Please inform any projected purchaser of
the City zoning requirements.
i
On July 8, 1977, I spoke with the pastor of the Calvary
temorial Church with regard to this matter. I will be
+ forwarding a copy of this letter to the chairman of the
board of trustees of the Calvary Memorial Church.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
 End of letter
