• ORONO. COUNGIL r4EETING HELD JANUARY 10, 1977 Page 30
Dick Benson, City Administrator, informed the HENNEPIN COUNTY PARK
City Council that the City is in reeeipt of a RESERVE DISTRICT
etter from the Hennepin County Park Reserve Snowmobi.es
strict which states that during the past several
years the ?Ap oty Park Reserve District
nas provided snowmobile trails in Carver, Morris
'-'. Baker, Lake Rebecca, Elm Creek and Crow Hassan
Park Reserves. These trails in the Park Reserves
have been primarily established on an e3ge of
a Park Reserve and they are connected to trails
established by various snowmobile clubs leading
r into and going away from a given Park Reserve.
The problem before the Park Reserve Board is a
request to set later curfew hours for snowmobile
• trails. In considering this matter, the Board is
cognizant to the impact of their decision on
 affected municipal juristrictions. The Board
+ 'els it would be mutually useful to get as broad
a consensus as possible between affected
Tlunicipalities and the District. Th.erefore, we
ould appreciate your recommendations, suggestions
• nd comments as soon as possible on this matter.
:?resent District regulations place a curfew on
snowmbile trails at 10:00 P.ri. from "unday through
Thursday and 12v00 A. M, midnight Friday and
raturday nights,
_e two requests before the Board are to increase
the curfew by two hours on both weekday and weekend
'Lise of from l0°00 P.M. to midnight for Sunday to
ihursday and from 12 a 00 A.PI. to 2 e 00 A.TZ. on
*rriday and Saturday nights, The other request is
o change only Friday and Saturday to 1a00 A.P.
'e t^lest Hennepin Snowmobile Club from Aaple
rlain and the Northwest Trails Association,
an affiliation of several snowmobile clubs in
iennepin County are making the above requests
:•"spectively.
`There is some feeling on the part of the District
'13o-d that favorable consideration to a later
urfew hour may be an imposition and irritation
to a far greater number of people than a granting
f the request will serve. On the other hand,
here is the desire of those who wish to travel
o various restaurants at night via snowmobile
nd return to their homes after these places close.
nclosed for your information is a sheet Iisting
vhe snowmobile curfew regulations presently in
ffect in various nunicipalities throughout the
ty. Also, we are preparing a map showing the
wmobile trail which has been established
Lnrough the coordination efforts of the snowmobile
ubs affiliated with the Northwest Trail Association.
lzis will be mailed in a day or two,
(Continued)
•
