' S.4 tiTII.ITIES <br /> ' The Contractor shall be sc�lely responsible for verifying the exact location of all utilities, whether or <br /> not shown on the Drawings or referenced in the Specifications. Prior to the start of any construction, <br /> ' the Contractor shall notify all utility companies having utilities in the Project area. The Contractor <br /> shall have sole responsibility for providing temporary support and for protecting and maintainir�g <br /> all existing utilities in the Project area during the entire period of constructic�n, including but not <br /> � limited to the period of excavation, backfill and compaction. In� car�ying out this responsibility, the <br /> Contractor shall exercise particular care, whenever gas mains or other utility lines are crossed, to <br /> provide compacted backfill or other stable support for such lines to prevent any detrimental <br /> ' displacement, rupture or other failure. <br /> 5.5 INVESTIGATIONS <br /> ' R�ference is made to the Contract Documents for identification of those reports of investigations and <br /> tests of subsurface or latent physical conditions at the site or otherwise affecting cost, progress or <br /> ' performance of the Work which have been relied upon by Engineer in preparation of the Drawings <br /> and Specifications. Such reparts or tests are not guaranteed as to accuracy or completen�ss and if <br /> incorporated into the Contract Documents, they shall be for general information only. Contractor <br /> ' shall be responsible for verifying site and subsurface conditions to his satisfaLtion prior to submitting <br /> a bid on the project. <br /> , 5.6 UNFORESEF,N PHYSICAL COIVDITIONS <br /> ' C�ntractor shall immediately notify Owner and Engineer in writing of any subsurface or latent <br /> physical conditions at the site or in an existing structure differing materially from those indicated or <br /> ' referred to in the Contract Documents. Engineer will promptly review those conditions and advise <br /> ' Qwner in writing if further investigation or tests are necessary. Promptly thereafter, Own�r shall <br /> obtain the necessary additional investigations and tests and furnish copies to Engineer and <br /> Contractor. If Engirieer finds that the results of such investigations or tests indicate that there �re <br /> ' subsurface or latent physical conditions which differ materially from those intended in the Contract <br /> Documents,and which could not reasonably have been anticipated by Contra�,to�, a Change Order <br /> shall be is�ued incorp�rating�rie necessary revisions. <br /> � SECTION 6 <br /> ' Il�ISURANCE. AND BONDS. <br /> LEGAL I�E�PONSIBII.,TTY AND PUBLIC SAFETY <br /> , 6.1 INSt�RANCE <br /> ' 6.1.1 General: The Contractor shall not commence work under this contract until he has obtained <br /> ail insurance required under this Section and shall have filed the certificate of insurance or the <br /> c�rtified copy of the insurance policy with the Owner and Engineer. The Contractor shall not allow <br /> ' any Subcontractor to commpnce work on his subcontract untit alI insurance required for the <br /> Su��Qntractor ha�been obtaineti.
