ORDINANCE NO. _, THIRD SERIES <br /> CITY OF ORONO <br /> HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA <br /> AN ORDINANCE FOR PROTECTING THE CITY'S WELLHEADS BY PROHIBITING <br /> NEW PRIVATE WELLS WHERE PUBLIC WATER SUPPLY IS AVAILABLE <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL OF ORONO ORDAINS: <br /> SECTION 1. Orono Municipal Code Section 14-142 regarding Wellhead Protection - <br /> New Private Wells Prohibited is hereby adopted to read as follows: <br /> Sec. 14-142.- Wellhead Protection - New Private Wells Prohibited. <br /> (a) The owners of all buildings where a public water supplv is available, or becomes <br /> available, shall connect the buildin�s to the public water suppl�ject to the followin� <br /> conditions: <br /> (1) A private property with a functioning well will not be required to be connected to the <br /> cit,y water until the well becomes nonfunctioning or the building under oe�s major remodelin� <br /> resulting in an increase in water use that exceeds the capacity of the well. <br /> (2) Where it is not feasible to connect to a public water sup�l , o�r 'if_private on-site <br /> water supplementation is required as determined by the City of Orono, a well may be drilled in <br /> accordance with the specifications and provisions of the Minnesota Department of Health, Water <br /> Well Construction Code. <br /> �b) At the time connection to the public water supply is completed, all existing private wells <br /> no longir in use shall be sealed by a licensed well contractor accordin�to the Rules of the Minnesota <br /> Department of Health. <br /> SECTION 2.
