levels. The location of this stormwater pond is just east of the wetland and can be
seen on the attached conceptual design layout.
c. A large number of pine trees will need to be removed in order to put in the
minimum width road and cul-de-sac. The water retention pond is located in an open
. area and will require little tree removal. It is suggested that many of the trees along
the creek banks be preserved so that during the spring months, creek bank erosion
does not become a problem on the site. The row of pine trees along the south lot line
should be saved to protect the privacy of this site and reduce noise levels from the
cars driving along CSAH 6. By preserving these trees the existing view along CSAH
6 will be retained. As can be seen in the conceptual design layout, the proposed road
and cul-de-sac will be in a location that preserves this row of pine trees.
d. The live trees existing on the subject parcel appear to be in moderate to good
health. There are a minimal amount of trees that have died or are dying but do not
appear to be diseased. Many of the ash and elm trees that are subject to disease
should be considered for removal andpossibly replaced with a selection of different '
tree species such as maple, basswood and other native species. As for invasive
species on site, buckthorn, reed canary grass and a few thistle species were found.
Attached to this conservation design plan is a suggested vegetation management plan
. for eradication of the invasive species. '
e. Please see Paragraphs 4c and 4d which address the Tree Protection Plan.
f. The delineation performed by Svoboda Ecological Resources (SER)indentified
one wetland on site. The wetland consists of two wetland communities. The interior
portion of the wetland was characterized by SER as a Type 3 PEMC Shallow Marsh.
The fringe is characterized as a Type 2 saturated Wet Meadow. The Dominant
vegetation within the Shallow Marsh was narrow-leaf cattail (Typha angustifolia;
OBL). Dominant vegetation along the fringe of Wetland 1 consists of reed canary
grass (Phalaris arundinacea, FACV and several sedges including common lake
sedge(Carex lacustris, OBL). This wetland has been given a 35foot buffer which
` will help protect its natural state.
g. The subject parcel is in moderate condition based on the M 34X modifiers as
described by the Land Cover Classification System. The site has a variety of native
tree species present but has been altered with the planting of the pine trees. There are
a few different invasive species present as mentioned earlier. Eradication of these
invasive species is discussed in the attached vegetation management plan.
h. •;:;:Defining maintenance of ecological connections does not apply to this ..-
project because we cannot define anything that would prompt a change to
the ecological connections.
i. The maintenance and protection of positive views will take place on this site in
order to enhance the overall value of the proposed houses. Some positive views located
Svoboda Ecological Resources 2700 Sixth Avenue
 Project No.:2011-012 3,? „ Orono MN
.
