The Planning Commission had
recommended approval of the average lakeshore setback variance
• but also recommended that hardcover not exceed 25 %.
Mr. Copley explained to the Council and Acting Mayor
Callahan the need to maintain the existing hardcover in the
driveway for turn - around area. Mr. Copley also said that it
would be difficult to remove other existing hardcover due to
terracing that had been done long before he owned the property.
Building and Zoning Administrator Mabusth confirmed that the
driveway width is approximately 11' and said that the City staff
would not recommend narrowing the width further.
Councilmember Goetten stated that she had visited the site
and agreed that the driveway should have enough area to turn
around. She said that it would be dangerous to back onto County
Road 51. Councilmember Goetten also reminded Mr. Copley that
should it be necessary to remove the tree located in the 0 -75'
setback zone, a permit would be required.
It was moved by Acting Mayor Callahan, seconded by
Councilmember Goetten, to table this application to the next
Council meeting to allow time for the applicant to work with City
staff to reach a compromise for removing existing hardcover.
Councilmember Peterson said that she had visited the site and
favored the Planning Commission's recommendation and the
resolution being presented this evening.
