9. INSTALLATION OF SOFFIT
• The four pieces of soffit that are of equal length are for the gable ends,
install these first. The other pieces fit in along the sides of the building.
Before applying, trace vent onto back of soffit plywood and cut an
opening small enough so that the vent will cover the cut-out. Note: It is
possibie to instali uents into the gabie ends also.
1 O. INSTALLATION OF DOORS
• Install doors by putting a spacer under the doors and then aligning
them. Leave a space of at least 1 /4 inch. Tlp: A fwo deep layer of
roofing shingles between the floor and the doors works weil. Use enough
nails to fasten the hinge boards securely. Temporarily tack the hinge
boards and check operation before completely nailing. Measure the
distance from outside of one hinge board to outside of the other hinge
board and cut from the lx4 piece with 45° angle already cut. Install
single lx2 above first, as a door stop, then attach sides. (For double
doors: remaining lx4 will be nailed to the back of stationary door where
doors come together.) Install hardware as desired.
11. INSTALLATION OF CORNER TRIM
• Install lx4 inch pieces for corner trim. Nail lx4 with square ends
flush with end wa11 siding while holding tight to underside of rafter.
Next, with angled lx4 upward, nail piece flush with corner trim on side.
Repeat for all corners.
12. SHINGLE ROOF
• Start at the eaves of the building and work toward the ridge. The
starter course is made of shingles turned upside down, and the first
course is nailed directly on top of the starter course, but offset half a
tab. The shingles should extend 3/4 inch past the roof edging on the
sides and ends of the building. Use the nails provided and place nails
in the seal-down strip. Four nails are needed for each shingle. Each
course of shingles is offset a minimum of 6 inches side to side and is
exposed to the top of the tab to the weather. (see fig 12-1) Note: For
m.ore detail, please refer to the instruction.s on the bundies of shingies.
,
