Map symbols and colors are
provided to facilitate locating the soil V,7pes on the detailed soil map
provided with this report.
Hamel ] team
The map symbol for this soil is Ila and the map color is medium blue.
This is a deep, poorly drained soil that formed in loamy collurvium over
lo..:y till. The soil occurs in short, narrow drainage%ays on foot slopes
and in long winding drainageways between knolls and hills. The native
vegetation was mainly sedges, grasses and scattered poplar trees. During
wet periods of the year there is a perch,d watertablc within 1 foot of
the surface and ponding may o...r-isr. The high organic matter content in
the upper soil horizons means soil has low bearing values. There is
ii
high potential for frost as i
I{avden loam:
This is a deep, well -drained .nil that formed in loamy glacial till and
occurs on gently sloping to very steep slopes on lrnolls and hillsides.
The soil was strongly influenced by a forest environment in its develop-
ment. The natural vegetation was mixed hardwood forest. Shale and llro-
stone fragments as well as granitic cobbles and boulders are common through-
out. Several slope phases are mapped in Hennepin County. Each slope
phase mapped in the area of proposed development is distissed separately.
Hayden loam-- 2 to 6 percent slope:
the map symIxil for this soil is HbB and the map color is mediir7 green.
This is a gently undulating soil occupying areas on knolls and hillsides.
This soil is well -drained and therefore never saturated although sidc-
hi ll seepage is not uncommon around basement %.':115 dUrin;; ra inv se• ,:!n.<
or spring thaws. The rolling slopes offer attractive building sites.
Soil strength is adequate. Shrink -swell (volume change) is low to rwxi-
crate Hith ckuinges in moisture content. The soil is r:ixlc:ratel•. rvIr--
cable. Erosion is a hazard if the soil is left cxreced for extended
periods.
