12286.2 <br />TO: Mayor and City Council <br />FROM: Mark Bernhardson, City AdministratorP�o '_ +'1 6iORONO <br />DATE: December 12, 1986 <br />SUBJECT: Administrator's Information <br />COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS - This is to let you know that the City <br />has put an item in the Laker and Pioneer newspaper together with <br />the Weekly News and Sailor requesting persons interested in <br />either the Planning Commission or Park Commission to submit their <br />names to the City by January 5, 1987. The City will also be <br />ascertaining the level of interest of existing commissioners in <br />their reappointment. <br />9IGHWAY 12/COMPREHENSIVE PLAN PROGRESS - The City has met with <br />it's planner regarding the next step in the Highway 12 corridor <br />study. Base,' on Council's action at your November 20th Highway <br />12 meeting, the Planner is working to develop the schematic <br />zoning map and staff will be working to develop a text draft for <br />the comprehensive zoning amendment. It is anticipated that this <br />draft will be submitted to the Planning Commission at their <br />January 20th meeting and will then be presented to Council at <br />either the January 26th or February 9th Council meetings. Once <br />the comprehensive plan amendment has been given preliminary <br />approval by the Council it will be submitted to Metro Council and <br />other affected jurisdictions for their review. Following their <br />review and hopefully subsequent approval, this will then be <br />brought back to the City Council for it's approval. It is <br />anticipated that during the Metro Council review period that the <br />staff will be developing the performance standards for the new <br />zoning amendments and that the Council will have those for <br />consideration at the same time and will be looking for final <br />action on the comprehensive plan as reviewed by Metro Council. <br />DEER HUNTING/HENNEPIN PARKS - As you will remember back in <br />NaveveemEer Council gave permission to Hennepin Parks to allow for <br />the hunting of deer on the Orono side of Baker Park. As a result <br />of that hunt 54 deer were obtained by the hunters and the City <br />received no complaints from the abutting property owners. It is <br />anticipated that a request will be made again next year and the <br />City will be reviewing any concerns or subsequent issues raised <br />regarding this issue. <br />TIZNN^c PIN PARKS - LAKEMINNETONKA INVOLVEMENT - The letter <br />prepared on _ <br />-behalf of_ the _t3ty Council was submitted to the <br />❑e-nepin Park's public hearing on November 25th in Wayzata. <br />There was general support throughout all of the six public <br />hoc -rings fur Ilenne;in Parks presence on the lake, although there <br />were significant concerns expressed particularly by <br />municipalities as to areas of which that presence would be felt <br />and also the level of activity.
