(MAPSI) until their <br />contract with the City of Minneapolis was terminated in April <br />1996, 'tinneapolis at that point used their own in-house animal <br />control service. Fol lowi -+ that, the ,ity ­untracted with Linda <br />Kadlac as :n independer-:untracto- wc.j had an excellent <br />r-putation in the northern -!:burbs. She, however, realized that <br />e'ne had over extended her operation and was forced to cancel the <br />ontract in September. The City then attempted to establish <br />.ontract with an individual whom she had hired but that was <br />unsuccessful. The �-ly contract service presently available in <br />the private r 'didwest Animal Control, the successor to <br />t1APSI. h(. ?er, is c-ricerned at,out their stability as <br />thev have c, their locat on f.o keeping of animals several <br />times and t:. is some question as ',) their withdrawing service <br />in this are j. <br />The City 1­s made s- ral attem-ts to work a contract out with a <br />private '11 however, to date tl,.s has nut been successful. As <br />an lternative the City has i�.ioked at providing animal con+-rul <br />ser ices through a Community Service Officer program (SCC, Ln <br />niuch the sane manner that the abutting coiimunities of Mound, <br />Plymouth, Wayzata and several of t:hP other first )nd second ring <br />^uhur!. have done.
