MINNETONKA POWER SQUADRON BYLAWS <br />Page 2 <br />boating, through instruction, self-education, and <br />participation in marine sports activities and <br />competitions; <br />2.01.4 To encourage its members to abide by <br />riic'ogiiized boating traditions, customs and etiquette; and <br />2.01.5 To render, and encourage its Members to <br />render, such altruistic, patriotic, or other civic <br />service as it may from time to time determine or elect. <br />WORD AND TERM MEANING <br />Section 2.02 As used herein, unless the context clearly <br />indicates otherwise, the term: <br />2.02.1 <br />2.02.2 <br />2.02.3 <br />"USPS" means United States Power Squadrons. <br />"District" means a District of USPS. <br />"Squadron" means this Squadron. <br />2.02.4 "Members", "Officers", "Committees", <br />"'neiegates", and subjects treated generally refer to and <br />mean those of this Squadron. <br />2.02.5 "Policy and Authority of USPS" refers to and <br />~the Constitution and Bylaws of USPS, the policies <br />adopted by the Governing Board, and the current USPS <br />Operations Manual which supplements these documents. <br />2.02.6 "Bridge" consist of the Commander, Executive <br />O"fTtcer, Education Officer, Administrative Officer, <br />Secretary, and Treasurer. <br />2.02.7 "Executive Committee" means all Bridge <br />O"fTtcers, elected Members at large, and the following <br />required attendees of Executive Committee Meeting, but <br />who shall have no vote, to wit: Past Commander and Law <br />Officer. <br />Section 2.03 Any word denoting gender used in these Bylaws <br />shall apply equally to either gender as the context may require. <br />-2- <br />MINNETONKA POWER SQUADRON BYLAWS <br />Page 3 <br />ARTICLE Ill <br />MEMBERSHIP <br />Section 3.01 Membership in USPS and in the Squadron is a <br />privilege, not a right, and shall be extended by invitation only. <br />Membership shall at all times be contingent upon the fulfillment <br />of all obligations to USPS and to the Squadron. Election to <br />membership in USPS is a function of the Governing Board of USPS <br />and is delegated to the Squadron Executive Committee subject to <br />the policy and authority of USPS. No membership shall be valid <br />unless the Member meets and continues to meet the factual <br />requirements of membership in USPS according to the policy and <br />authority of USPS and of the Squadron. Any prospective Member <br />shall be socially acceptable to the other Members of the Squadron <br />and be able and willing to contribute energy and skill to the <br />objectives of the Squadron and USPS. <br />Section 3.02 <br />membership: <br />There shall be the following classes of <br />Active Members (consisting of Regular Members, <br />Sustaining Members), Family Members, Associate <br />Honorary Members. <br />Life <br />Members, and <br />Members, and <br />Section 3.03 The Regular Members of the Squadron shall <br />consist of persons eighteen years of age or older who are elected <br />Members as herein provided. <br />Section 3.04 A Regular Member who has made payment of a <br />lump sum equal to twenty times the then current National dues <br />shall be a Sustaining Member. Sustaining Membership does not in <br />itself exempt the Member from payment of District and Squadron <br />dues and assessments. <br />Section 3.05 A Regular Member who has been awarded <br />twenty-five (25) Merit Harks shall become a Life Member. Life <br />Members shall have all of the privileges of Regular Members <br />except that they shall be exempt from further payment of Squadron <br />dues and shall receive such other exemptions in the Squadron as <br />are appropriate to match those granted by USPS. <br />Section 3.06 Family Members of the Squadron shall consist <br />of the spouse of the Active Member and persons related to the <br />Active Member by blood, legal adoption, or marriage who are at <br />least twelve (12) and less than twenty-five (25) years of age and <br />who reside with or are dependents of the Active Member. Family <br />Members shall enjoy only such rights and privileges as are in <br />-3-
