11586.5 TO: Hayor and City Council FROM: -ark Bernhardson, City Administratorw[t1 DATE: November 5, 1986 SUBJECT: Northwest Area Lions Donation i 9 t0i 1 ISS_U_E_ - Does the City choose to accept the charitable contribution in the amount of $1,000 from the Northwest Lions primarily for the purposes of beautification of the community. DISCUSSION - On October 22, 1986 the City was given a check by Mr. Steve Cooper of the Northwest Lions Club in the amount of $1,000. This donation is made without any specific direction for expenditure of funds. It is their desire however, that it be expended in the area of beautification as that was the purpose they raised money. It is also requested that it be directed in the area of Orono in which the Northwest group draws membership. This matter is currently under study by the City's Park Commission and it is staff's present recommendation that the money be used for beautification and improvement of the park site adjacent to the water tower on Blaine Avenue in the Navarre area. RECOMMENDATION - That the Council formally refer this matter to the Park Commission for further study and recommendation as to the appropriate expenditure of this donation. It is further recommended that staff send a letter of appreciation acknowledging the monies once a decision as :o expenditure has been made. PROPOSED MOTION - Moved by _ , seconded by , to accept the generous donation of $1,000 from the Northwest Lions, the stated intent of which is for beautification in the community. It is further moved that this matter be referred to the Park Commission for a recommendation and that upon action by the Council as to how this man is to be spent, that staff thank the Lions for their genera; )nation.
