Joints for <br />polyvinyl chloride pipe shall be made by the use of a solvent cement or push - <br />on rubber gaskets. All jointing procedure shall be in accordance with the <br />recommendations of the pipe manufacturer. <br />After joints are made, any superfli.ious material inside the pipe shall he re- <br />moved by means of an approved follower or scraper. All joints must be water- <br />tight, and any leaks or defects discovered must be immediately repaired. Any <br />pipe which has been disturbed after being laid must he taken up, the joint <br />cleaned and properly relaid as directed by the Engineer. <br />Joints connecting cast ;-,)n pipe with concrete or clay pipes shall be made <br />with a concrete collar c .let_ely surrounding the joint or approved adapter. <br />Where a sewer line outlets to grade or where the line is terminated with a <br />flared end section, the Contractor shall fasten at least the last three (3) <br />joints together by the use of "U" bolt fasteners approved and as reco=eneed <br />by the pipe manufacture-s. <br />24,000.4. SERVICE CONNECTIONS: <br />24,000.4.A. WYE BRANCHES: Extra strength wye branches shall be placed at the <br />locations directed by the Engineer. The wye branch shall be placed so that <br />the wye is located at approximately a 45' angle from horizontal.. Vitrified or <br />other suitable plugs shall be provided for the openings. Plugs shall be in- <br />stalled with Atlastic 77, Sonolastic Sealant or equal joint material or shall <br />be specifically designed for the opening to be plugged. <br />24,000.4.B. RISERS: Standard weight cast iron soil pipe shall be used as <br />risers to extend service connections to a point within 10 feet of the street <br />grade or as directed. Risers shall he installed in accordance with the stan- <br />'ard service riser detail plate. Care shall he taken in backfilling so as not <br />to damage the riser installati,,,.,. Suital,le plugs shall he provided for the <br />openings, properly seele-1. <br />24,000.4.C. RECORDS S LOCATION OF SERVICE CONNECTIONS: It shall be the du' <br />of the Contractor to keep an accurate record of service connections, as t•► 1 <br />cation. depth to top of riser, type of connection provided, etc. Locat:_+n <br />shall be made in respect to nearest manhole center, downgrade from the ser- <br />vice. This record shall he turned over to the Engineer at the end of each <br />week. <br />24,000.4.P. SIZES OF SERVICE CONNECTION: Size of services to wye ',ranches <br />shall be inches or as otherwise stated in the "Specific Requirements" or <br />"Proposal." <br />24,000.5.
