Memo #84-60 <br />page 1 of 2 <br />TO: City Council <br />FROM: Tom Kuehn, Finance Director <br />DATE: October 26, 1984 <br />COUNCIL MEETING <br />OCT 29 1984 <br />CITY OF ORONO <br />SUBJECT: Establishment of Revenue Sharing Section 504 Grievance <br />Procedure <br />Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act states, in part chat "no <br />otherwise qualified handicapped individual . . . . shall, solely by <br />reason of his handicap, be excluded from the participation in, be <br />denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any <br />program or activity receiving federal assistance . . . ." The Office <br />of Revenue Sharing has required that all revenue sharing recipients <br />establish a procedure to process complaints of handicapped based <br />discrimination. The attached grievance procedure format w-is <br />developed by the National League of Cities and should satisfy the <br />requirements of the Office of Revenue Sharing's Section 504 <br />regulations. <br />It is recommended that Council approve and adopt the attached Revenue <br />Sharing Section 504 Grievance Procedure. <br />
