16 . Privy: An outhouse; a cesspool enclosed by a <br /> building, typically not served with running water . <br /> 17 . Pumping : The removal by gravity, syphon or <br /> mechanical means of any liquid or septage from septic or <br /> holding tanks. <br /> 18 . Seepage Pit: An underground pit into which a <br /> septic tank discharges treated liquid and from which the <br /> liquid seeps into the surrounding soil , including septic <br /> tanks which are not watertight. <br /> 19 . Septage: Those solids and liquids which collect <br /> in and must be periodically removed from septic tanks, aerobic <br /> tanks and holding tanks. <br /> 20 . Septic Tank : Any watertight , covered receptacle <br /> designed and constructed to receive the discharge of sewage <br /> from a building sewer , to separate solids from liquid, to <br /> oigest organic matter , to store septage through a period of <br /> detention and to allow clarified liquids to discharge for <br /> further treatment in a second tank or in a soil treatment <br /> area. <br /> 21 . Sewage: Any water carried domestic waste, exclu- <br /> sive of footing and roof drainage , fr�m any dwelling or build- <br /> ing. Domestic waste includes , but is not limited to liquid <br /> waste and liquid-borne solids produced by bathing, laundry, <br /> culinary operations and wastes from toilets and floor drains . <br /> 22 . Soil Treatment Area: An area where liquids dis- <br /> charged by a septic tank are treated and disposed of below <br /> the ground surface by filtration and percolation through the <br /> soil. <br /> 23 . Structure: Anything which is built, constructed <br /> or erected , an edifice or building of any kind , or any piece <br /> of work artificially built up or composed of parts joined <br /> together in some definite manner , which requires a location <br /> on, below or above the ground. <br /> 24 . Treatment: The purification of raw sewage by the <br /> removal or neutralization of pollutants through separation, <br /> bacteriological processes , biological and physical filtra- <br /> tion, and gasification. <br /> Subdivision 3 .
