LHCO Board 4/26/89 <br />g. It was moved by Hurr, seconded by Reese, to call a Public Hearing <br />^or 7:00 P. M. on May 24, 1909 at the Tonka Bay City Hall to consider the <br />request of the Minnetonka Yacht Club and Lake Minnetonka Sailing School for a <br />Special Density Permit and new dock license. Motion carried unanimously. <br />C. ENVIRONMENT, EURASIAN HATER MILFOIL TASK FORCE, Chair Reese. <br />a) Contract service bid award, Eurasian Hater Milfoil harvesting <br />for contract service was presented per the attaciiei’ Resolution recommending <br />Atlas Marine, a division of Atlas Foundation, Inc., as the most competitive <br />bidder. <br />Reese recommended Atlas Marine and submitted alternate work plans <br />based on three and/or five harvesters. Funds available should permit harvesting <br />through mid-August. This would permit harvesting up to 1700 acres out of <br />approximately 3000 acres expected to be infested. <br />Strommen elaborated that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources <br />will issue its initial permit for harvesting 500 acres two times a year. <br />Individuals can harvest up to 2,500 square feet without a permit. <br />It was moved by Reese, seconded by Rascop, to adopt a proposed <br />Resolution in support of the recommendation to engage Atlas Marine, a Division <br />of Atlas Foundation Co., as the most competitive bidder to conduct the cutting <br />of aquatic weeds in Lake Minnetonka for the 1989 Boat Season, copy attached. <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br />Reese recommended purchasing a 52* conveyor for shallow areas and for <br />increasing the number oi off-loading points. <br />It was moved by Reese, seconded by Rascop, to authorize the Executive <br />Director to advertise for bids for a 52* conveyor, estimating the cost less thab <br />$25,000. Motion carried unanimously. <br />b) Financial summary, fund raising <br />Strommen reported all cities have contributed for a total of $84,338. <br />There is $14,000 outstanding in pledges. The Wayzata Banks will sponsor a half <br />marathon with estimated receipts of $12,000 - $15,000. This will total $240,000 <br />- 1250,000 from smaller private and city sources. <br />A Public Information program as to how, when and where weed <br />cut this summer was suggested. <br />will <br />c) Task Force informational highlights <br />Reese reported that Lake Minnetonka will be a test site for a new <br />fungus whii.h has the possibility of disabling Eurasian Hater Milfoil. It is <br />estimated any practical use would be at least five years away. <br />8
