Chimney caps may be used on chimney liners providing they do not <br />obstruct or impair the free emission of the products of combustion, <br />are approved by the administrative authority. Sec. 7403 SBC <br />92. Single wall metal pipe shall be constructed of sheet steel not <br />less than #20 gauge or other approved non-combustible corrosion <br />resistant material. Shall be installed only for runs directly from the <br />space in which the appliance is located through the roof or exterior <br />wall to the outer air. Shall further meet requirements of SBC1303, <br />7409 as are applicable. Sec. 7403 SBC <br />93. Type B gas vents, shall be round in physical shape except as <br />approved for B -W vents. For further specifications see Sec. 7404 of <br />SBC <br />94. Outside gas vents and chimneys are not recommended for use in cold <br />climates. When they must be used in these climates the material shall <br />possess high insulation qualities or be adequately insulated. Sec. <br />7405 SBC <br />95. Vent connectors fc - conversion burners without draft hoods and <br />unlisted appliances without draft hoods shall be constructed or not <br />less than #24 gauge galvanized sheet. Sec. 7407 SBC <br />96. When two or more appliances are connected to a common vent or <br />chimney, the effective area of each vent, connector shall be not less <br />than the area of the applicant, draft hood outlet. Sec 7407 -c -SBC <br />97. Two or more gas appliances may be vented through a common flue or <br />vent connector when necessary, if joined by "Y" fittings as close as <br />practicable to the flue or vent and provided the size of the common <br />flue or vent is sufficient to accommodate the total volume of flue <br />gases. "Y" fittings shall be made so that the angle at which the vent <br />connectors intersect is as small as possible and should not exceed 45 <br />degrees. Sec 7407 -f -SBC <br />98. Vent connectors shall be firmly attached to draft hood outlets by <br />sheet metal screws or other approved means. Joints of other than <br />listed Type B gas vent materials shall be securely fastened by sheet <br />metal screws. Sec. 7407 SBC <br />99. The mayimum length of an uninsulated horizontal run of vent <br />connector shall not exceed 758 of the height of the gas vent, chimney <br />or single wall metal pipe. Sec. 7407 SBC <br />100. Single wall metal pipe used as a vent connector shall not pass <br />through any floor or ceiling. Sec. 7407 SBC <br />101. A vent connector shall not be connected to a chimney serving a <br />fireplace unless the fireplace opening is permanently sealed. Ser. <br />7407 SBC <br />
