Dave McKown coinnented on the arMcle written by Dr. Pregle regarding parents <br />taking students out of school for vacation and stated that he agreed with the <br />comments made by Dr. Pregle. <br />Or. Mich provided the audience with information on the law regarding non-renewal <br />of* probationary teacher contracts and the process that is followed. He <br />reiterated that, according to the law, the Board of Education is not at liberty <br />to discuss personnel matters with the public and that this can be frustrating <br />for everyone involved. He also stated that teachers, whose contracts are not <br />renewed, may reapply for positions in the district when positions/openings <br />occur. * Decisions such as these are not easily made by administration or the <br />Board and he assured the audience that their concerns would be heard/considered <br />but he also requested that they not draw conclusions as to the cause for the <br />action that is being considered at this meeting. <br />At this time, the meeting was opened to parents to allow them to voice their <br />concerns/share comments regarding the non-renewal of contracts. <br />Dr. Mich informed the audi-jnce that the Board would be going into executive <br />session for purposes of discussion of personnel data and that no action can be <br />taken at this session. A vote on resolutions can be conducted only in public <br />session. <br />The Board adjourned to executive session. <br />The meeting was reconvened by Chairman Dave McKown. <br />Member Don Anderson Introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No. 278, <br />Orono, Minnesota: ^ ^ ^ tv ^1) That the district approve the payment of the sum of One Thousand <br />Dollars ($1,000.00) in settlement of the claims of a school district <br />employee.2) Pursuant to the Minnesota Supreme Court's decision in the case of <br />Annandale Advocate v. The City of Annandale, the name of the employee <br />and theTactual "bTsTT oTlheuaTm will be treated as private personnel <br />data pursuant to the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. <br />3) That the School Board has reviewed the Settlement Agreement and directs <br />the Board Chair to sign the Agreement on behalf of the School Board. <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by <br />John Maresh and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor <br />thereof: <br />Crosby, Maresh, Taylor, Anderson, Franklin, McKown <br />and the following voted against the same: None <br />whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. <br />Dr. Mich expressed appreciation to the audience for their attendance at the <br />meeting and their concern not only for their children but for the district. He
