Response: Yes — usually Mn/DOT needs to obtain <br />ami a determination is made to determine livability of the remaining property. <br />John James (Maple Plain): When will scoping be done/decision on corridors be made? <br />Response: Scoping completion — late fall/winter — then public hearing, and a decision in <br />earfy spring 19^ <br />Pat Kitler (Independence): What is driving the need for the facility? Response: Lots of <br />histoiy to project - began in 1958 to expand TH 12. Now fadlity is way over capacity, <br />substandard, dangerous and in need of improvements. <br />Brett Alexander (Independence): What body makes the decision on the corridor? <br />Response: Hie Commissioner of Transportation. <br />Ann Peterson (Independence): What is EIS — is it being done now? Response: No ~ <br />comes after the scoping — will probably begin next year. EIS is a full disclosure document <br />which states ali social, economic, and environmental impacts associated with the project. <br />Steve Wood (Orono): What is the Scoping Process? Response: Identify issues and <br />potentially feasible route alternatives, narrow list down to 2, 3 or 4 alternatives for further <br />study ~ and try to identify a preferred corridor. <br />Tindfl Scalf (Independence): Is there anything that prevents "kicked-out ” alternatives from <br />being reconsidered? Response: No, this is what scoping is for. <br />Elizabeth Moriarty (Long lake): When will construction take place? Response: Soonest <br />would be around Year 2000. <br />Brian Nowak (Independence): \Miat body • the preferred solution? Response: The <br />Cbmmissioner of Transportation but bases d,'<:V:on on staff and local government <br />recommendations. <br />Suzanne Pittel (Long Lake): Commissioner Riley said Long Lake/Orono have been going <br />at this seven years and that he will make decision for them. Response: The deadline <br />statement is accurate ~ but he can’t speak for former Commissioner Riley. <br />Darrell Plugner (Orono): In the traffic counts - why was trend based on 1988?
