f <br />5: <br />fi- <br />f <br />i' <br />P’- <br />t' <br />Position Profile <br />-3- <br />Experience in dealing in the metropolitan area with particular empha'iis on <br />dealing with the Metropolitan Council, the Department of I ransportation and <br />other metro agencies. <br />Demonstrated strong composition skills <br />•Experience with or knowledge of working in a volunteer fire service operation <br />Experience in dealing in a contract situation and providing municipal services <br />on a contractual basis to other communities. <br />•Experience in land use development, particularly as it relates to environmental <br />issues. <br />Experience in establishing and installing public facilities with particular <br />attention paid to the impact on the environment. <br />An appreciation for the rural atmosphere of Orono and a demonstrated comfort level <br />with a "small town" environment. <br />•Extensive experience with personnel relations, particularly negotiations, and the <br />timely handling of grievances and disputes. <br />Management Capabilities <br />*Resolve grievance and personnel issues in a timely and cijuitable manner. <br />Establish a clear chain of command. <br />*Be comfortable with delegating responsibility and authority to department <br />heads. <br />•Establish expectations for staff and a basis for evaluating achieving the <br />expectations. <br />•Provide information to City Council being particularly aware of politically <br />sensitive issues. <br />Allow department heads to work with the City Council and develop a team approach <br />to Council/Staff relationships. <br />Meet with individual Councilmembers. per their request, as well as deal with Council <br />on a group basis. <br />Be comfortable in a "small town" appro.ach to affairs and dealing directly with <br />citizens. <br />r <br />r* <br />---------■. . .. i-f.
