CITY OF ORONO <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />NO. 7462 <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING GRANT AGREEMENT FOR POLICE OFFICER <br />WHEREAS, the city of Orono applied for and was awarded a grant from the Minnesota <br />Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Justice Programs (OPJ). <br />WHEREAS, the grant is for an Intensive Comprehensive Peace Officer Education and Training <br />(ICPOET) to assist in police officer hiring. <br />WHEREAS, the ICPOET is designed to recruit candidates who may be interested in a career <br />transition into law enforcement at a time when vacancies are high across the state. <br />WHEREAS, the OJP will reimburse for the costs of a candidate who already holds a two or <br />four-year degree from a regionally accredited college or university while they obtain the required <br />Professional Peace Officer Education (PPOE). <br />NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Orono City Council: <br />I.Accepts $50,000.00 to be used toward the education, training and wages of an <br />ICPOET program candidate. <br />II.Approves the agreement with the Minnesota DPS OPJ for the ICPOET program. <br />FURTHER, Chief Correy Farniok is hereby authorized to execute such agreements and <br />amendments as are necessary to implement the program on behalf of the Orono Police <br />Department and to be the fiscal agent and administrator of the grant. <br />FURTHER, Chief Correy Farniok is directed to submit quarterly progress and expense reports <br />and other grant agreement and OJP grant manual requirements. <br />Adopted by the City Council of Orono, Minnesota at a regular meeting held on April 8, 2024. <br />ATTEST:CITY OF ORONO <br />_____________________________________________________________________ <br />Christine Lusian, City Clerk Dennis Walsh, Mayor <br />44
