Orono Municipal Zoning Code Section 10.56, <br />Subdivision 17 is amended by adding Subsection (T) to read as <br />follows: <br />(T); Floating docks and platforms. Because the disintegration <br />of non-encased styrofoam dock flotation blocks leads to floating <br />styrofoam beads washing up onto the shoreline, causing a visual <br />blight on the shoreland landscape, and thereby creating a public <br />nuisance, the use of non-encased styrofoam blocks, sheets, or <br />billets for dock and platform flotation is prohibited subject to <br />the following regulations: <br />1."Non-encased styrofoam " means any brand of expanded <br />polystyrene beads molded into a block, sheet, or billet <br />or other shape that does not have a permanent casing, <br />covering or coating which would eliminate <br />disintegration of the molded block, sheet, or billet <br />into individual beads or chunks as a result of ice <br />action, animals or normal activity by dock users. <br />2.This ordinance applies to all private and commercial <br />docks, swimming platforms and other similar structures, <br />regardless whether such structures are permanent or <br />seasonal in nature. <br />3.No new permanent *;r seasonal docks, platforms, or <br />similar lake structures using non-encased styrofoam <br />blocks, sheets or billets for flotation, shall be <br />constructed after the date of adoption of this <br />ordinance . <br />4.The owners of any existing permanent or seasonal dock, <br />platform, or other lake structure constructed with non- <br />encased styrofoam shall discontinue use of the non- <br />encased styrofoam as a flotation device no later than <br />than January 1, 1997. <br />mm »M. - . - -
