[■: <br />1.^ <br />r- <br />i <br />I <br />r-r <br />LMCD Board of Directors December 4, 1991 <br />B. 1992 EWM Control Program <br />The Board received a copy of the minutes of the sub­ <br />committee to guide the 1992 planning for EWM control. held on <br />12/2/91. <br />Reese said the plan is to fully utilize shore off-loading, <br />with minimal I if any, use of the barges. It is his belief that <br />1992 will be a low year for milfoil growth because of the high <br />water and the early snowfall keeping light from Lake weeds. They <br />will be looking toward testing chemical treatment in some small <br />bays. Attention will be given to the accesses in an attempt to <br />keep them clear of milfoil. <br />Reese reported at the 11/16/91 Committee meeting that the <br />Hennepin County Board of Commissioners has appropriated $150,000 <br />for milfoil control in 1992. A county attorney advised the <br />County Board that it has no authority to make such <br />appropriations. LeFevere said an appropriation could be done <br />under a contract arrangement between agencies and the County. <br />Staff and LeFevere are to contact County Commissioner Jude and <br />the county attorney to discuss the contract idea. <br />FINANCIAL REPORTS, Treasurer Boswinkel <br />A. The Board received the Statement of Cash Transactions <br />for the month ending 10/31/91 and ordered it filed. Rascop asked <br />if there were any year end budget adjustments required and was <br />informed there were none. <br />B. Rascop moved, Babcock seconded, payment of bills in the <br />amount of $23,379.27, checks numbered 8236 through 6281. Motion <br />carried. <br />5. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REPORT, Strommen <br />A. MN Lake Management Federation Conference Highlights <br />The executive director reported he and Thibault attended the <br />MLMF conference in October. There were 400 participants w3th <br />lakeshore owners and agency professionals in good attendance. <br />Thibault benefited in meeting regional and state agency people. <br />MLHF established an exotics steering committee. They will meet <br />to develop legislation fox EWM and Zebra Mussel containment- <br />spread prevention. <br />B. MLMF Exotics Steering Conmittee Recommendations <br />The Steering Committee highlighted four priority items for <br />exotics control: <br />1) State action to be expanded against exotics. To work on <br />containment. j v j*2) Maintain the exotic species within the infested bodies <br />of water. . . • i * • i3) Long term research on methods for eradicating milfoil^ <br />4) Develop a program to reduce risk from exotics coming <br />into Minnesota.
