"1
The meeting was recessed at 7:50 p.m. in order to provide the Board
the opportunity to express appreciation to members of the
Facilities Planning Committee that were present.
The meeting reconvened at 8:05 p.m.
Neal Lawson provided the Board with information on the process that
was followed in the selection of the architect. He stated that the
committee received "Statement of Qualifications" from nine
architectural firms and that the committee chose, using criteria
relevant to Orono's projected needs, to interview three of the
firms. The committee developed qualifying factors that were used
in the evaluation of each of the firms interviewed resulting in
their recommendation that Wold Architects and Engineers be approved
as the architect for the Orono School District.
UPON MOTION by John Maresh, seconded by Pamela Schroeder, the Board
of Education approved Wold Architects as the architect for the
Crono School District pending contract negotiations.
Motion carried.
Dr. Mich presented the 1000 Policy Series for its annual review
process. He stated that as significant work was done on this
series two years ago, he would ask that the Board regard this as a
first reading with the second reading to be at the April 11
meeting. He also recommended that the Philosophy of Education
(Policy No. 1001) be eliminated from the series.
Hr. Franklin stated that the next agenda item involves discussion
regarding a student expulsion, and that under the Open Meeting Law
in order for the administration to inform the Board as to the facts
underlying the recommendation for expulsion a portion of the
meeting must be closed to the public. Following the discussion at
the closed meeting, the public portion of tne meeting will resiune
and a brief statement will be made.
At 8:40 p.m., the Board of Education's public meeting resumed. Mr.
Franklin summarized the closed session as an informational briefing
by the Principal of Orono High School relative to an expulsion
issue that will be brought back to the Board in the future.
UPON MOTION by Peg Swanson, seconded by Martha Van de Ven, the
meeting was adjourned. Motion carried.
