Dr. Mich reported that the search for the middle school associate <br />principal is progressing with 41 applications now received; that <br />Or. John Maresh and Dr. Robert Hoerr have filed for the Board of <br />Education election which will be held on May 16, 1995; that on <br />March 15 administrators/Board members would meet with city <br />officials for discussion of matters of mutual interest; that later <br />in the meeting the Board would be adjourning to Executive Session <br />for discussion regarding a potential expulsion and that next week <br />a special Board meeting needs to be set regarding this issue, the <br />consensus of the Board was to meet on Thursday, March 23 at 5:00 <br />p.m.; that he would conduct Peer Review training on April 10 and 11 <br />and that Board members are welcome to attend; that conferences were <br />held on all levels during the week of March 6 and <br />participation/attendance by parents was very good. <br />Dr. Mich stated that at this time Mike Wilder, Schumann Elementary <br />teacher, would present to the Board a conference as conducted in <br />his classroom through technology. Mr. Wilder showed the Board how <br />he conducts a conference by computer with audio participation by <br />the student for their parents. Dr. Mich and the Board expressed <br />appreciation to Mr. Wilder for this exciting and informative <br />presentation. <br />Dr. Mich provided the Board wvth a legislative update, stating that <br />the message remains discouraging and he encouraged Board members to <br />continue contacting their legislators regarding the lack of funding <br />for education. He stated that there is talk of rescheduling the <br />rally that was cancelled and he will keep the Board informed on <br />this matter. <br />Dr. Mich and Martha Van de Ven presented to the Board the X<ong* <br />range Planning Facilities Council report which details its findings <br />and provides recommendations that serve to provide a positive <br />facilities direction for the Orono School District. Mrs. Van de <br />Ven expressed appreciation to the members of the committee for the <br />hard work/time/effort that each of them gave to the work of this <br />project, and she then reviewed each of the recommendations. <br />UPON MOTION by Martha Van de Ven, seconded by Pamela Schroeder, the <br />Board of Education accepted the Facilities Council Long-range Plan <br />Report and accepted the recommendations, with gratitude, and the <br />Board directed administration to further study cost estimates as <br />provided by administration and the District's architect. <br />Motion carried.
