The
tracks will be back to the inplace grade approximately 0.5 miles west of Old
Crystal Bay Road.
3.The railroad will be moved to south of its existing location throughout the
project length which will allow for construction of the new segment while
maintaining service on the existing line.
MnDOT will need to acquire right-of-way from the railroad varying from
0 to 50 feet. Through most of the project length in the Long Lake area, the
right-of-way required will be approximately 25 feet. Our estimates were
based on existing railroad right-of-way of 150 feet and moving the
reconstructed aligrunent approximately 55 feet to the south of the existing
railroad.
Structure and grade crossing changes required with the Alternative 6 North concept from
east to west are as follows:
1. DNR Luce Line Trail Bridge over the railroad will need to be replaced.
This may be a historic structure. Wlio is responsible for maintaining this
existing bridge since the trail currently belongs to DNR?
2. Railroad bridge crossing near the old sewer plant now referred to as the
Flemming Addition will be eliminated. There doesn ’t appear to be a road
that goes to anywhere that would justify the need for a bridge.
3. Railroad bridge crossing at Watertown Road will be eliminated. This bridge
provides access for Watertown Road, Bollum Lane, and Orono Orchard
Road to inplace TH 12.
Railroad bridge crossing at May Street will be eliminated. All of the above
bridges may be historic structures and are being evaluated by the cultural
resource unit at ths time.
5.The existing at-grade crossing at Lake Street/Brown Road will be
eliminated and the proposed highway and railroad will be depressed
approximately 15.5 ft. North and south Brown Road will be connected by
a new bridge over the railroad and highway. Lake Street will either be a
i
