Highway 12 Interim Sewer Capacity Continued
November 4, 1996
However, none have advised the city of any development plans. The three property owners and
the number of units for which they have been assessed are as follows:
Otten Bros. 30
Rebers 44
Wear 10
TOTAL 84
One potential solution to providing additional capacity on an interim basis is to expand a portion
of the existing Long Lake sewer trunk line. For example; the installation of a parallel trunk line
from Watertown Road to the Long Lake Metro lift station would provide an additional 100 units
at a cost of approximately $150,000.
In discussing interim capacity with both the City Engineer and the Public Works Director, it was
suggested that Or >no should work with the city of Long Lake to find ways to gain as much
additional capacity as possible from the existing trunk system to avoid spending money on a
solution that is only temporary. Two suggested options in relation to Long Lake are as follows:
1. Long Lake is in the proce.ss of identifying sources of 1 & 1 in its .sanitary sewer
system. Addressing the I & I would create more usable capacity in the trunk
system. Rather than spending money on a trunk line expansion that will be
replaced in 5 or 6 years, it may be a better use of funds to use that money to
assist Long Lake in eliminating I & I, which would create additional capacity and
would also improve the Long Lake system.
2. It would be possible to reroute approximately 75 current and proposed units of
sewer flows from the proposed North Brown Road forcemain into Long Lake’s
local sewer system vs. into the trunk line. This could make additional capacity
available in the westerly half of the trunk line.
These ideas have been discussed with the Long Lake City Administrator. A meeting involving
the city engineers of both cities will be scheduled to determine potential solutions to the interim
sewer capacity problem.
