May 9, 1996
Mr Chuck Siggerud
IMinnesota Department of Transportation
1500 West County Road B2
Roseville. MN 55113
Dear Mr. Siggerud:
Vi
We want to thank you and your team for actively participating in a meeting with us on
Tuesday evening, May 7, to consider alternative perspectives regarding Trunk Highway
12. It was a productive evening that left us with common goais as we adjourned that
session. The format of our meeting allowed us to agree to the following conclusions:
1. With the cooperation of members of our group, MnDOT will visit with advisors
and public engineers from Winnipeg, Vancouver, and potentially other cities where
reversible lanes have proven t > be elective traffic systems. Thank you for
agreeing to fund this activity. We would only add that it would be more beneficial
for MnDOT to visit the Canadian sites as well as inviting them to visit here.
2. Between now and June 22, you will consider instating the reversible lane plan as a
viable TSM alternative. This, of course, would occur as this concept continues to
be proven as a legitimate solution to traffic movement.
3.We will continue to work closely with you while updating other agencies and
political entities of our plan.
Thanks again for your openness in considenng the reversible lane concept. We look
forward to your developing this idea as a prototype for other cities and states in this area.
Sincerely
ciationrof LonaLThe Grafi|ti ^dge Associationrqf Longl^ake/Orono
Concerned Citizens For Long Lake
cc: Tom O’Keefe, Patti Loken - MnDOT
City Councils of Wayzata, Long Lake, Orono
Len Levine
